I’ve been researching for days now and really driving myself insane trying to decide which digital SLR camera is the best for me. Thanks to Ken Rockwell and his great reviews and advice, I’m purchasing the Nikon D40.
I was leaning solidly toward the D90 because of all it’s cool new bells and whistles. Now, I realize bells and whistles are great. IF you know how to use them. Not only do I NOT know how to use them, I don’t even know what some of them are. The D90 is way too much camera for me.
This D40 kit comes with the camera body, an 18-55 AF-S lens, gadget bag, 4 GB memory card, USB card reader and all the usual stuff you get with a camera like the battery, the charger, etc.
I chose the kit because I need a case and a memory card. I am also going to purchase a 55-200 lens for my kids’ sporting events. The 55-200 was recommended by a friend and has VR technology (vibration reduction) which I’ll definitely need.
If you’re a beginner this camera is a good choice. It’s not like trying to operate the Starship Enterprise straight out of the box. Read the reviews and see what you think.
